Cause of death: Officer Kent was shot and killed by a robbery suspect.

Location of sign: East side of South Broadway, south of Manchester Avenue, between 86th Place and 87th Street


Officer Martin Parker
(May 23, 1924 Sept. 14, 1961)


Cause of death: Officer Parker died as the result of a motorcycle accident.

Location of sign: Northeast corner of White Oak Avenue and Strathern Street


Officer Charles F. Hallenbeck
(April 20, 1934 July 26, 1962)


Cause of death: Officer Hallenbeck died after his police vehicle was deliberately rammed by another vehicle during a high-speed chase.

Location of sign: Southwest corner of East 109th Street and Compton Avenue


Officer Ian James Campbell
(Aug. 21, 1931 March 9, 1963)


Cause of death: Officer Campbell was kidnapped, then shot and killed by robbery suspects. (The story of Campbell's death is told in the best-selling book and movie, "The Onion Field.")

Cause of death: Sgt. Piepenbrink died as the result of a helicopter crash.

Cause of death: Officer McDonald was shot and killed by a burglary suspect.
