Hollywood Remains to Be Seen

Photos from Hollywood Forever

These are from the recently re-opened, L-shaped mausoleum at the southwest corner of the property, between the chapel and columbarium, and the Abbey of the Psalms.

If you walk out of the west side of the Abbey of the Psalms (the Joan Hackett side), and into the mausoleum, this is what you'll see.

This is further down the corridor, looking back toward the entrance where you just came in.

Another shot toward the entrance where you just came in. Most of the markers in this corridor are people who died in the 1920s through the 1940s ...

... Like this guy, "Big Otto." And, no, I don't have any idea who he is.

This is the area in the center of the L. All of the family niches -- the big spaces behind the statue -- seem to be at least partially occupied, as well as most of the smaller niches.

A view from the front. Looks like a nice place to have lunch, don't you think?

Another shot of the central area.

Some of the family niches have stained-glass windows, though most of them are still covered.

And now we're heading toward the other corridor, toward the chapel.

This seems to be a brand-new area. As a point of reference, it's directly behind the little corridor where Elmo Lincoln is. And it looks like they need to do a little more work on the ceiling.

And here's the little cherub at the end of the corridor. As a further reference, behind those doors is the entrance to the columbarium, which is behind the chapel.

And this is the cherub's-eye view, looking back down the corridor. Seems to be pretty vacant at the moment.
