Officer Richard David Kent
(Nov. 20, 1930 – Dec. 8, 1960)


Cause of death: Officer Kent was shot and killed by a robbery suspect.

Location of sign: East side of South Broadway, south of Manchester Avenue, between 86th Place and 87th Street


Officer Martin Parker
(May 23, 1924 – Sept. 14, 1961)


Cause of death: Officer Parker died as the result of a motorcycle accident.

Location of sign: Northeast corner of White Oak Avenue and Strathern Street


Officer Ian James Campbell
(Aug. 21, 1931 – March 9, 1963)


Cause of death: Officer Campbell was kidnapped, then shot and killed by robbery suspects. (The story of Campbell's death is told in the best-selling book and movie, "The Onion Field.")

Location of sign: Northwest corner of Hollywood Boulevard and North Gower Street


Sgt. Norman Dean Piepenbrink
(Dec. 8, 1926 – Nov. 30, 1964)


Cause of death: Sgt. Piepenbrink died as the result of a helicopter crash.

Location of sign: Los Angeles Police Academy


Officer Gary Kirt McDonald
(Aug. 7, 1943 – Oct. 6, 1965)


Cause of death: Officer McDonald was shot and killed by a burglary suspect.

Location of signs: Southeast corner of Vermont Avenue and 39th Street


Officer Lawrence Douglas "Larry" Amberg
(Oct. 22, 1938 – Aug. 30, 1966)

Officer Alex N. Ilnicki
(Aug. 1, 1920 – Aug. 30, 1966)


Cause of death: Officers Amberg and Ilnicki died as the result of a helicopter crash.

Location of signs: East side of Solano Avenue, south of Amador Street, and south of the 110 Freeway


Officer Donald Leroy Highley
(June 10, 1934 – Feb 10, 1968)


Cause of death: Officer Highley was struck and killed by a drunken driver while writing a traffic ticket.

Location of sign: Northwest corner of Riverside and Zoo drives, just south of the Ventura Freeway (134)
